Resource Centre

The Heights School Resource Centre is a central part of the whole school community. It provides staff and students with a wide range of high quality, up-to-date resources in a range of formats. Our resources support the curriculum and reflect the learning and recreational needs of the whole school community. The Resource Centre is a safe and welcoming place for students to study and relax during break times. All students, R-12, are able to use the Resource Centre at recess and lunch times where staff offer supervision and support. The computer room is also available for recreational and study use plus there is a quiet area available for individual study.

The Resource Centre opens every morning at 8:15 am for study, reading or computer use. It stays open for borrowing until 4pm after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

Chess Club is also in the Resource Centre on Thursday afternoons until 4.00pm.

The Resource Centre is staffed by:

Each year we encourage all of the students to be involved in the Premier’s Reading Challenge where they commit to reading twelve books from a selected list. Students in Years 5, 6 and 7 can also elect to be involved in Book Cup, an interschool reading competition.

Book Week celebration in August is another annual event in which we are involved. The Children’s Book Council of Australia provides a shortlist of children’s books and the selected winners. We have activities promoting the books and the Book Week theme which culminates in a bright and colourful parade by the Junior School students.

We welcome and appreciate feedback from both students and parents regarding the resources and services provided by the Resource Centre and also value the contributions and support of parent and student volunteers.
